I figured I'd better post this today, so that in a week or so I can claim I knew it all along and get Glenn Reynolds to Instalanche me.
The whole Valarie Plame thing is going to turn out to be nothing. What's going to happen is that “everyone” knew Wilson had a wife that used to do something at the CIA, but no one had quite put it together that meant she was a spy, they all thought she was an analyst including whoever Novak talked to in the administration. (Given that the CA employes like 100 analysts for every spy, normally its a safe bet.)
So Novak publishes, then David Corn at the Nation puts it together that she wasn't publicly a spy given that “CIA” appeared nowhere on her resume. He publishes, suddenly she is “outed” which isn't a big deal given that she was married to a high-profile State Department guy, she wasn't exactly Jennifer Garner. But her co-workers get outed too which is a big deal.
Sure, its a colossal fuckup. But its not treason. Everything Wilson said is going to turn out to just be paranoia.
I always say never put down to evil what can more easily be subscribed to stupidity. Lots of people were stupid in this affair. Novak, the CIA, the Adminstration guy, Wilson.
But no one was treasonous. If being stupid was illegal, half of Congress would be in jail, and the other half would be on trial.
I myself was stupid just yesterday, and later today, I plan on being stupid some more. Its my god-given right as an American, a citizen of the world, and a blogger.

But wait! But WAIT! Didn’t I read somewhere that someone on the McLaughlin Group had proclaimed that the recently released reporter’s note would verify that it was Karl Rove who leaked about Plame? (sigh) Another lefty attempt to rid themselves of the evil genius goes for naught.

I think that I would disagree with the assessment that this will turn out to be nothing. In fact I would argue this is going to be a very harmful to the Bush administration. The Democrats are beginning to accumulate enough evidence into the unethical nature of Bush Admin activities that could be described as the perfect storm.
Wilson knew Bush propaganda claims concerning Nigerian yellow cake was false, thus he published his views of the deception. At this time total corporate media complance with Bush fabrications was common, and those against Bush were in the extreme minority. The 911 coup Bush attempted was still powerful at this stage, so Karl Rove “outted” Plame as a warning to others who would defy the iron will of Bush power. Unfortunately the mask is off, and Bush Inc is failing miserably, the coup failed, people hate the patriot act and want a demcoracy over a holy divctator that will lead us into the holy crusades.
Republicans will have a choice in 2006, abandon their leader to retain their seats, or go down in a fiery mass. People are really fed up. Nobody believes Bush. Everyone knows that they were lied to by the govt and the media. This is a collosal failure of state policy, possibly the worst in US history, and it has just started. The US state will be rocked as these allegations come forth in the coming years.
If, and its a big if, the Democrats take control of the senate and house in 2006, there will be imeachment trials, and possibly, if evidence merits it, treason trials for the hijacking of US security policy. We may see Don Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, GW BUSH, Doug Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, Condi Rice, Colin Powell, all on trial for treason for lying to Congress about evidence for WMDs. Hijacking national security policy with fabricated eveidence to congress is a VERY serious offense. Bush, like reagan, is the only one that may get off for following orders and being ultimately unaware of the nature of his administration’s lies
What i find interesting about this is that Republicans really got frothy at the mouth over Clintons sex life and the house imeached him over it. Bush lied to the AMerican public giving false evidence to congress, and has lead 1744 US soldiers to their deaths under these false pretenses. This is a very serious matter and the inability and unwillingness for Republicans to take action within this is causing a major backlash against the Republican party. A US population which was once either depoliticized, or reactionary and voting toward cynicism has been renewed with vigor. There truly is a political force out there that makes it culturally hip to really, i mean really, dislike republicans..all the kookoos, the schiavo lovers, the lying militarists, people really are fed up and catching on that they are being bamboozled.
But anyway, who knows and this is a test of our intuitions. I say Bush inc is going down in flames and you think nothing will come from this…we will see.
