Must read article on Iraq/Vietnam

From Melvin Laird the Secretary of Defense during Nixon who oversaw our withdrawal from Vietnam. Read it here

According to him, it wasn't Vietnamization that was so bad, it was when Congress 2 years later refused to fund the foreign aid for Vietnam.

Which means...in 2 years be prepared to write your Congressman about how we need to renew aid to Iraq.

Sigh

But read the article, its great to get that sort of perspective.

Bob:

You are charitably assuming ignorance and stupidity on the part of MSM and pols like Kerry. The Pentagon plan is no secret to them. It’s just that in advance of what they hope (now I’m being charitable) to be a December and January of milestones and visible progress, followed by the drawdown to follow (and possibly an improvement in the public perception of the Iraq war) - they are simply positioning themselves to claim some credit when the troops begin returning. “We forced Bush to finally do the right thing - Cheney & Chimp wanted to stay FOREVER!”, etc. It’s all about November 2006, and it’s all they have.

Yesterday: It’s all going so badly - there is no end in sight! Today: Now even Murtha! It’s a groundswell! Tomorrow: Thank God they finally listened to us!

Never put down to evil what you can put down to stupidity, stupidity is much more common.

Clap louder, Tinkerbell needs your help, just clap louder, for thirty three years later we can still win Vietnam despite the fact that 25-30% of the entire ARVN was working for the other side, despite supporting massively corrupt individuals and organizations, and despite deciding to win a peace through superior firepower, screw the consequences. We may have been able to prevent the fall of Saigon, but we would still be sending several tens of billions of dollars in supplies per year to the Saigon government till today.

Well, I don’t know if I agree with Laird, but it’s still worth reading his perspective Fester.

Note that Russia had to prop up Vietnam for years…maybe it was good we lost the war…
