A brave man dies

Steven Vincent was killed in Iraq. Steven Vincent was a freelance journalist in Iraq, and wrote some great pieces. You can read his blog here. TigerHawk has a roundup.

I'm sorry though, this doesn't let the New York Times off the hook. Sitting in your hotel in Baghdad and rehashing press releases is not journalism.

To see what a real journalist in Iraq looks like, read Michael Yon.

Steve Vincent was a brave man and was murdered by police in basra because he exposed john negropontes shia death squads who rule that city by thuggery. just like el salvador, john nergoponte will murder people into democracy through massive assassinations of civilians…but wait, now j negro is head of czar of domestic intelligence, maybe our death squads will come for americans to make them free?

sounds like brown shirted fascism to me…heil Bush america!

So now John Negroponte is behind the Shia? And you wonder why I think you’re a nut job?

Come on, be honest. You’ve written a computer program to generate your comments haven’t you?

ernie:

if you dont know about j negro you need to do some reseacrh into the dirty wars in latin america during the 80s when everyone was getting drunk on rambo movies. from honduras j negro led planning for death squads that murdered 10s of thousands of civilians. now he is head of domestic intelligence in the USA…

and you call me the nutjob? haha, you are the one who supports the rise of fascism in america.

Note that El Salvador and Honduras are democracies now.

Is it the means that bother you, or the ends?

Anyways, I’m calling you a nutjob because you made this leap from a dead journalist, who wrote about the problems with militias and some other things, and you brought up John Negroponte. That’s a big leap ernie, and it makes you sound like a crazy guy on the subway who’s talking to himself…

Opinionated Bastard [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Plus Negroponte is the former ambassador to the UN, now ambassador to Iraq. So the whole head of intelligence threw me.

As near as I can decode you ernie, you’re arguing that JN is secretly head of intelligence in Iraq? Nope, that’s someone else. You don’t make the public guy the head of intelligence, get a clue ernie, that’s going to be some guy who doesn’t have a Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Negroponte

Anyways, all that anyone has really argued with JN is that he turned a blind eye, not that he really promoted it. You’re not going to get me to argue that during the Cold War, the US did a lot of fucked up shit.

In a word, Duh.

The real question is what we do now. I don’t think the WOT needs the same kind of crap we did in the Cold War.
