Enough!

Just felt like a Rant. I’m in California on a business trip, and I’m in the worst part of California, the North Bay in San Francisco, so I’m surrounded by elitist-yuppie-scum who think they are so enlightened and liberal, when really they are the worst sort of snobs, Mercedes-driving-hippies. I got stuck behind this car on the freeway that was belching black smoke as it proudly proclaimed that it ran on “free used vegetable oil”. No doubt that was why it smelled like burnt french fries.

It’s only been 2 days of gritting my teeth while listening to this claptrap about how the US has killed 100,000 Iraqis (27,000, and that’s about 1/12th of what Saddam would have killed in a year), how our soldiers are nazis, how Iraq is Vietnam, how their free speech is being oppressed, all the same tired rhetoric I became a blogger to escape, and already I’m about to explode.

So here goes.

Enough already! I’m sick of the whining. Yes, Bush probably shouldn’t have been elected in 2000. I don’t mean all the nonsense about chads, no, that was just bullshit. Gore lost the count plain and simple. That stuff about only recounting the Democratic ballots was a nice try, but no go. No, I’m perfectly willing to believe that the people in the Beth Shalom Rest Home (i.e. Florida) got confused and really didn’t mean to vote for whatshisname, the nazi. But you know what? We don’t have psychic voting in this country, so get over it. Blood sports are illegal, so we have politics in this country instead and sometimes the referee makes a bad call. You can spend the next year whining about how you should have won the Superbowl, and lose next years games too; or you can come back the next year and crush them. There’s not a person in this country who didn’t see Al Gore’s new beard on September 11th and think, “whew, we really dodged a bullet there, that guy has totally lost it”. So get over it. It’s 2005 now are you still going to be whining about this in 2008?

And what was with the last election anyways? Kerry? The man who both was against the war in Vietnam, AND fought in it? You think Bush is stupid, so you find some guy who got worse grades and worse SAT scores to run against him? Who passed a total of 6 bills in 20 years in Congress, 1 of which was to change the name of a building? You didn’t like having a rich white guy president so you found someone richer and whiter? Meanwhile his running mate made Dan Quayle look qualified? Yeah, yeah, I know, the alternative was Al Sharpton. Don’t you think that was the problem to begin with?

Come on already! If the Democratic party wants my vote, they have to nominate people I can vote for. You know what? Making Howard Dean the head of the Democratic National Committee is not a step in the right direction. Neither is the fact that Hillary Clinton is the best thing happening in the Democratic party right now. Does the phrase “been there, done that” mean anything to you?

I mean, god knows the Republicans piss me off. It seems like the Republicans have this vague idea that the Ten Commandments should be law. And you know, I’ll go along with thou shalt not steal and thou shalt not kill. But honor thy father and mother? What would that mean exactly? Mother and Father’s day more times a year? Not committing adultery? Like I was going to tell the government? No graven image before me? Yeah, my house was just full of graven images. No the Republicans are nuts, but at least they’re going to let me own a gun so if need be.

Sure, the Iraq war isn’t going very well. Duh. Its being run by the US government! We could elect Buddha President and the war would be going about the same. So while I don’t think its “just another Vietnam”, Iraq is its own country with its own problems, would it be so bad if we got Iraq as a do-over on Vietnam? Then maybe we could stop talking about Vietnam. We went into Vietnam about the time I was born, and I’ve been hearing about it ever since. I’m 38 fucking years old we’ve had 5 other wars since then, its time to change the subject.

Yeah, Yeah, Bush lied about WMD. So did the New York Times. Everyone lies to everyone; my wife keeps telling me I have a big dick. (Yeah, I’m so fooled.) That’s life. You know what? The New York Times is still lying to you about Iraq. they want to sell newspapers, and if they have to lie to do that, they will. If you really want to know what’s going on Iraq, go out onto the internet and get the truth from some Iraqis.

You know what they’ll say? We hate the Americans, they came here and blew up our country, we hate the terrorists, they’re now blowing up what’s left, and we hated Saddam too, he raped anyone who couldn’t run faster then him. But goddamn it, you’re in it now, you have to setup a halfway decent government before you leave.

Yes, Iraq is this expensive boondoggle. But its not like we had a lot of choice; even the UN report (Hans Blix, remember him?) showed that Saddam was like Wild E. Coyote: anyone with a PHd in Iraq who wanted a new Mercedes just had to come up with some weapon system he’d cribbed from a Roadrunner episode, and Saddam would be writing a check to A.C.M.E.. Now perhaps if the UN weren’t bloated and incompetent, they could have been helpful and we could have avoided this war. But that would have required taking the French out behind the woodshed and schooling them a bit in reality, and they get so whiny when we do that. (smack Don’t sell weapons to crazy people smack Don’t sell weapons to crazy people smack don’t sell weapons to crazy people, even if they do have oil )

Besides, when it comes right down to it, when a bunch of crazy guys with towels on their heads come to your country and fly airplanes into your buildings, you’re allowed to go off the handle and invade a couple of countries to get ‘em back. Sure, Iraq was only tangentially related to 9/11, but we’d already invaded Afghanistan and all we got was a bunch of goats; Iran has too many people (plus been there, done that, anyone remember the Carter administration?) so that left Iraq, which was starting to smell bad anyways.

So we’re in Iraq. Get over it. The only question now is whether we do a good job (setup a democratic government, keep the crazy exploding Arab guys down to the level of a nuisance until we can leave, establish lots of permanent military bases so we can bomb the Iranian nuclear facilities in about 5 years), or whether we prematurely ejaculate and leave.

I vote for finishing the job. Yes, that means more of my tax dollars spent building sewer plants in places with names I can’t spell. But if we can establish a country with a halfway decent government, that will be half a government more then any other country in the middle east…

If you pickup an ugly girl in a bar, you still have to make her come. That’s all I’m saying. It’s the gentlemanly thing to do.

and you say my words sound angry…

mercedes drving hippies huh? interesting….

yuppie scum liberals huh???…even more interesting… most yuppies i meet contain childish greed and an irrational sense of freedom, liberty and self.

i can understand your anger though, going to a business meeting and meeting colleagues who dont have their heads up their heads up their asses. (ya know, not believing Bushs dogmas, seeing through the statist lies…ya know…being SANE.)

thats gotta hurt….i know.

plus i bet many of them were even…gay…and probably believe they have the right to be married!

liberal infadels! bring on the holy crusade!

hell, these traitors are probably arguing today that the national guard should be in new orleans and not spreading magic pixie dust in Iraq to fulfill the fantastical delusions of our holy class of phony libertarians.

in short, your rant shows you got some issues man…just let it go…being compassionate isnt a bad thing.

ernie:

i must congratulate you for finally coming clean about Iraq. Finish the job though? Are you kidding? How bout using tax dollars to build sewers in New Orleans? Thousands of US citizens are dying from exposure and our resources are in the IRaqi desert with your support for our holy cowboy pharoah.

and you guys still deny the impacts of global warming…how cute…just like little children!

The US is failing…wake up

Also how does it feel to finally acknowledge that your previous 2 years of justifications for the Iraq war is pure shit (i quickly skimmed your archives…ouch)? Thats gotta hurt mentally….

ahhhh the process of emotional and intellectual growth, aint it wonderful.

I don’t think I’m “coming clean” about Iraq Ernie. I still think we had to do it, I still think we have to stay there, and I still think its going better then the Mainstream Media with their Iraq=Vietnam theme thinks.

As far as Bush goes, I think he’s doing a lot better then any of my other choices (Kerry, the entire Democratic party) would have done.

Something you’ve never quite gotten is that its not that I think the sun rises and sets on Bush. It doesn’t. I just think he’s better then any of the other choices I’ve been offered.

If the mainstream media pulled their head out of their ass, we might see some real criticism of Bush and the war in Iraq. But as it is, the criticism I do see of the war is ill-founded and ill-informed. In the kindom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king…

I don’t think there is anything in my rant that disagrees with anything I’ve said in the last 2 years. There are serious problems with the way we’re conducting ourselves in Iraq, but they’re not the criticisms that people like you promulgate.

Oh, and by the way, I work in the finance industry, so most of the day I listened to my coworkers gloat about our investment in Valero…after arguing that we needed to shoot a few looters.

Though I’m in West Bay now, out of Marin, people are richer in Marin, therefore more likely to be fascist hippie types. West Bay just has sort of the standard California social liberal thing I grew up with, it doesn’t extend to taking everyone’s money away to give to “the poor”, even though their own money is tax-sheltered 17 ways to Sunday.

There’s nothing that makes me grit my teeth more then listening to someone say that “other people” should pay more taxes to help “the poor”.

ernie:

i do commend you on the honesty of your beliefs, they are genuine. My point is that the prevalent idoelogy that commands the USA is decadent and incompetent. Money is a holy grail now and liberty and freedom are reduced to dogmatisms by people who will just not grow up. Listen to how stupid the conservative ideology sounds during the new orelans crisis. “you cant tax me and my hard work, thats against liberty and freedom” as thousands die in attics and from exposeure” “im against big govt because adam smith is a genius” as desperate people break windows in stores to get some water. See, we may be against “big govt” and not like ebing taxed, but when those looters reach our homes and take justice upon us for our incompetence we have no room to claim we dont understand the reaction of the injustice we support. What in the hell is your money going to mean when all cities in the USA are on fire?

Money does not mean shit, especially in this era of rubber fiat dollars and when this house of card comes crashing down and 401k america is destroyed this will be quite clear.

really bastard, look at the facts, look at the incompetence of ideologies that dont even touch reality. Look at bushs actions, femas actions, homeland security’s actions…purely divorced from reality.

Where was FEMA? Why is FEMA so good at police state and martial law but unprepared to help victims? Where was Bush in this huge attack from mother nature? Where was homeland security? These folks are protecting us? or putting us in kennels at gunpoint?

Again, your sentiments are honest, and that is commendable, but if we are going to be critical thinkers about power we need to also have some soul, some humanitas. Greed sucks, it always has.

and as an ending note, men who contain virtue and compassion get laid a lot. women love the sentiment and are magnetically attracted to it. (even more than lots of money)i thought this fact might interest you.

AET:

You forgot to mention that at least the Republicans aren’t in favor of complete fiscal irresponsibility (at least I’m still hoping that’s the case)- God only knows what would happen if the insanely liberal Democrats got to have the tax raising, spending spree they really want. Can you say “The United States of Soviet America?” Why they think unlimited funding for every hair-brained utopian social engineering scheme through re-distribution of wealth is a constitutional right is simply beyond me.
