Bush: Because I believe in Evil
Do you believe in evil? I do.
Look at this picture (clicking on the image will popup a larger view):
Here we see a Russian Special Forces soldier carrying an injured child. A child.
Look at how he is carrying this child. You can see the grief in his eyes, in his body.
The people who attacked those schoolchildren in Beslan are evil. They shot children in the back. They didn't just build bombs, they surrounded them with nails and scrap metal so that the maximum number of children would be killed.
It is only luck and our aggressive work against terrorists in this country that something like Beslan hasn't happened in America. There are thousands of elementary schools in American, and none of them are protected by armed guards. Even after Beslan, the fact is that we can't protect all of our schools. We have to defeat terrorism at its source.
One of the things that struck me about the Republican convention vs. the Democratic convention was that the Republican party is willing to stand up and say that terrorism is evil. I watched and waited for the Democrats to take a stand. I watched and waited for Kerry to take a stand. To this date, Kerry has yet to do so. His supporters call this "nuance". I call it idiocy. If killing schoolchildren isn't evil, what is? Here is his statement on Beslan:
Teresa and I are deeply saddened by the tragic deaths and injuries of so many young schoolchildren, their families and teachers at Middle School No. 1 in Beslan, North Ossetia. Our prayers and sympathy are with the people of Russia in these days of immense grief.
The tragedy in Beslan follows a horrific series of terrorist attacks in Russia. Americans stand united with the people of Russia against terrorism and share the Russian people’s grief and mourning at these senseless deaths.
Here's what Powell said on September 9th:
There is no political or religious justification for what happened in Russia, where young students on their first day of school are killed by the hundreds. This is evil and terror of the same type that was perpetrated against the United States three years ago on September 11.
Here's what the President told the Russian Ambassador Sunday:
I'm here to express my country's heart-felt sympathies for the victims and the families who suffered at the hands of the evil terrorists. The United States stands side-by-side with Russia as we fight off terrorism, as we stand shoulder-to-shoulder to make the world a more peaceful place and a free place.
The atrocities that took place in the school were beyond comprehension. Many in America, and I know many in Russia, simply cannot conceive the hearts of a person that would mow down innocent children. And the killers, once again, reminded us -- remind us of the duties we have as free people to work in concert, to work in unity, to make this world a better place.
Here's what the President said today at the UN:
This month in Beslan we saw, once again, how the terrorists measure their success -- in the death of the innocent, and in the pain of grieving families. Svetlana Dzebisov was held hostage, along with her son and her nephew -- her nephew did not survive. She recently visited the cemetery, and saw what she called the "little graves." She said, "I understand that there is evil in the world. But what have these little creatures done?"
We know where President Bush stands. The victory conditions in Iraq are the creation of a functional, democratic society in the heart of the middle east. That's a tough goal. I think its a good goal. We know that he is willing to call the horrors of Beslan evil. We know that he is willing to fight for freedom and for America. We know that he is going to do everything in his power to win the war in Iraq, and when the President says win, we know what he means.
Even at this point in the campaign, we still don't know where Kerry stands. He has carefully avoided any commitment to leaving Iraq as a democratic state. In fact, he's avoided all commitments when it comes to foreign policy. He's avoided taking questions from major reporters for 40 days now. He offers the Russian people sympathy and prayers instead of tough talk on terrorism.
So my choice is clear. I believe in evil. I believe that terrorism is evil. I believe the that cure for terrorism is democracy and liberty. So I am voting for President Bush in this election.

150,000 dead Chechens, killed by Yeltsin and Putin.
Why? Because Chechnya, which has its own language, whose roots aren’t Slavic, wants to be independent, and declared itself independent in 1991.
SMASH THE CHILDREN! Kill 150,000 people because they want to be independent!
That the new democracy!
And, if, after 13 years of being slaughtered, some Chechens go crazy, and hold kids as hostages, well, that’s all the more reason to burn and kill every single Chechen alive!
DEATH TO INDEPENDENCE!
DEATH TO CHECHNYA!
Bless America, And Our Fearless, Truthful Leader.
Remember, Putin only kills Chechens, and has the FSB bomb Russians (and blame it on the Chechens) because they want to be independent. Independent of who, you might ask? Why, the people killing them!
Silly Chechens, Independence is for Brave Americans, and everyone else who does what we say.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. If 150,000 Chechens have died, that doesn’t justify the killing of 600 children.
Furthermore, you’re parroting (badly, since the statement I found said 250,000) some pro Chechen websites. However, the reality is more complex. Here, read this pro-Chechen website which claims nowhere near that number of deaths:
http://www.chechnyafree.ru/index.php?lng=eng§ion=historyeng&row=3
They claim that many refugees but only about 3-4,000 civilian deaths.

I’ve never read any Chechen websites.
I was quoting David Satter’s “A Small Town in Russia” which appeared in the Wall St. Journal (about 1.5 weeks ago).
Nice try, though that might explain why you thought I was doing it badly.

Here’s the article for those who are interested:
http://www.sais-jhu.edu/pubaffairs/SAISarticles04/SatterWSJ090704.pdf
However, if you read the link to chechnyafree.ru, you’ll find that its more complex then Mr. Satter argues, that Dudaev wasn’t the most honest guy in the world either.
I can’t find any documentation for the 130,000 (not 150,000) civilian deaths that Satter claims. At best, I’ve found claims of that many refugees, but a refugee is not dead.
Here’s the global security report on Chechnya I: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/chechnya1.htm
Which says 25,000 dead.
Here’s Chechnya II: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/chechnya2.htm
Which says maybe 10,000.
The reality is that no one knows.
However, as I pointed out, two wrongs don’t make a right.

Of course, take innocent hostages at movie theaters and kill innocent children on their first day of school - that’s how to win Independence! If those children try to escape, go ahead and shoot them in the back! That’s the first step in Constitutional Authority!
I remember reading about our Founding Fathers doing the same thing back in 1770! They were taking schools in Britain hostage and killing the children! Yes, and France did the same thing in 1789! Has there ever been a successful revolution without taking children hostage and shooting them?
Ah, yes, the good ol’ days of political science and government classes at my alma mater - I always enjoyed the turning of the leaves, football season, and reaching chapter three in my textbooks - ‘Kill The Innocent Children of Your Imperialist Occupiers’.
Josh Narin, vous êtes un idiot au delà de comparez.

The original point was that evil exists. The picture, and reference to the Chechen “rebels” was only to show what the face of evil looks like.
In fact many of the “Chechen rebels” weren’t Chechen at all. Chechnya provides a convenient front for foreign terrorists (and Al Quieda). Russia’s hands may not be clean on Chechnya, but the hands of those children WERE! By deliberately targeting the children for slaughter the terrorists KNEW they were setting back the cause of independence for Chechnya…that was one of their aims. Keep Chechnya as a festering boil, and incite the Russians to retaliate, thus ensuring a bumper crop of new fanatics. Think about it. If the children get released on day one of the siege, and then even if every adult gets murdered the “rebels” could claim at least some legitimacy. Why slaughter the children? Because legitimacy wasn’t their aim.
But back to “evil”. America is dividing into those who know that evil exists (and will say so publicly) and those who deny its existence (or at least deny it publicly). During a recent “spirited discussion” on a talk show the host attempted to find a tiny bit of common ground by asking the Democratic Party rep if she couldn’t at least agree that the atrocities committed upon the children during the siege in Chechnya fit the description of evil. She refused, calling the perpetrators “bad people, to be sure, but hardly evil”. Michael Moore has gone further, by labeling vermin such as those that intentionally targeted and murdered those children as “Freedom Fighters”.
Labeling the terrorists in euphemistic ways only keeps “evil” at bay grammatically.

I am stunned at the similarity of this photo to the famous one that was taken at the Oklahoma City bombing — it is almost identical except that in OKC the man carrying the child was a firefighter if I remember correctly.
It is impossible to understand the hatred that would kill and maim a small and innocent child, even if it is proof of evil.

The bastard Bush has got blood of the innocents on his hands… What you casually call ” colleteral damage” is MURDER. So lets wait and see what happens to the gang of murderes in the white house…I am ready to party when I get some good news.

Looking…nope, never used the term “collateral damage”, which by the way, you spelled wrong.

I am very disappointed that many americans are blinded and are not able to see the real face of this president. His excuses and lies are so obvious that it is very very scary. He pretends to bring democracy to certain countries, when at the same time he is killing democracy in the US, or are you really thinking that we have a free press in this country. you will see the differences if you are able to follow international reports and compare them what is served to the local people here in the US. The bottom line is, it is all about Oil price going up, a small group of people getting rich(Haliburton), and drive the middle class into poverty. How can someone claim to be so relligious and then at the same time support assault weapons! Hypocracy in it’s finest.
